In the final box score, the record will show that Charlotte Catholic’s Ladies Lacrosse Team came up one goal short in the state championship match. The loss will sting for a few more weeks, but eventually the focus will turn to the incredible season for the team.

Behind the success was a group of Lady Cougars that played all four seasons; Taylor White, Caroline Pedlow, Lexi Jankum, Tarra Dahlke, Elizabeth Hubbell and Elizabeth Immel.

This group of girls began playing for Catholic at the same time the lacrosse program started in 2006. They have seen the ups and downs of building a successful program. Their leadership and dedication to hard work have been at the core of the team’s success.

In addition to the core group of six, many other players played large roles in the team’s success. Catherine Ellis scored 38 goals for the season. Lauren Lefeber was right behind with 36 goals, followed by Taylor White and Emma Campbell with 34 goals each. An interesting scoring statistic for the team comes in the career goals column. Emma Campbell is the all-time leader with 113 goals; Taylor White had 112, and Lexi Jankum followed with 111 career goals.

Three of the Lady Cougars earned all-state honors: Catherine Ellis, Lauren Lefeber and Taylor White. Taylor also earned Academic All-American Honors. She will continue to play lacrosse in college at Davidson College and Lauren will attend Presbyterian. Elizabeth Hubbell will also play college lacrosse at Savannah College of Art and Design

The South Charlotte Sports Report salutes The Charlotte Catholic Ladies Lacrosse Team for four years of success and a fantastic 2009 season. We feel we are only at the beginning of what will become a tidal wave of success for ladies lacrosse in South Charlotte. Hats are off to all that contribute their time and knowledge to build the sport.
