2008 Greater Charlotte Swim League Division I Dual Meet Champion
2008 Greater Charlotte Swim League Division I All Star Meet Champion

Weddington Swim & Racquet Club's summer swim team, the WEDDINGTON WAHOOS, finished 1st place at the Greater Charlotte Swim League Division I AllStar Meet, held Monday, July 14, at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center. All Division I teams competed for the title.

Division I is the most competitive of six divisions of the Greater Charlotte Swim League. The league consists of 35 club members throughout south Charlotte and western Union County. The WAHOOS coaching staff include Head Coach Matt Mundorf and Assistant Coaches Laura Raichle, Charlie Higgins, Kyle Samuelson, Courtney VanDyne and Colby Johnson.
Wahoo Collin Higgins broke the 13-14 boys Division I All Star Meet 50 Backstroke Record with a time of 25.95.
During the regular meet season, swim teams compete within their division for the Greater Charlotte Swim League Division Dual Meet title. The WAHOOS took 1st place in Division I, with their undefeated 5-0 record for the 2008 season.
Division I Dual Meet and All Star Meet Champion trophies were awarded to WSRC at the conclusion of the All Star meet Monday night.
As announced at the Wahoo banquet, WAHOO Overall MVPs for the season included Currie Murch Elliot, Charlie Higgins, Collin Higgins, Peter Hetzel and Nathan Fold. These swimmers scored the highest number of individual points (girls/boys) during the season.
Greater Charlotte Swim League offers competitive summer swimming for swimmers up to age 19. Swimmers compete by age group including 6 & under, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14 and 15-18 (19, if a senior in high school). Events include freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, the individual medley (25 meters of each stroke), medley relays (one swimmer per stroke) and freestyle relays.
The WEDDINGTON WAHOOS swim team is organized by Lori and David Murch Elliot and the WAHOO Staff: Ann Hatton, Wendy Arnold, Pam Holley, Alison and Eric Hoffman, Patrice and George VanDyne, Jill Warren and Karen Paris. Swimmers must be members of the Weddington Swim & Racquet Club to join the team. Located in western Union County, WSRC provides swimming and tennis activities for families in Union and Mecklenburg counties.
