COMMUNITY HOUSE MIDDLE GIRLS WIN SOCCER TITLE

These girls are good!   The Community House Middle School girl’s soccer team captured the conference championship this season outscoring their opponents 50-6!  The Cavaliers recorded nine shutouts and won two shootouts to round out an unforgettable season on the soccer field.

Head coach Jeff Smith is very proud of the girl’s efforts.

“I think what made our team so successful is that one, the outstanding ability and skill of our team and two, their trust and belief in each other.”

Helping the team was the fact that last years squad was made up of all 7th graders, allowing for this year’s team to have a full year of experience together.  Thirteen girls returned from last season.

Coach Smith comments more on the season.

”We played some very tough games against Alexander Graham, South Charlotte, Carmel, Crestdale and Jay M. Robinson. We had two shoot outs against Carmel and South Charlotte. All the games stand out in my mind for different reasons, but probably the one that I remember as our best game was the second game we played against Alexander Graham.  They had only lost to us coming into the game and they wanted revenge.  Our girls played a complete game on offense and defense.  They transitioned the ball up the field, working together to win the game 3 to 0.  Now we played some closer games to finish out the season but that one stands out to me as our best all around game.”

Team leaders included Holly Elmore, a seventh grader playing goalie.  She started the season with plans to play backup sweeper and goalie, but her play was so outstanding that the Cavaliers had to have her in goal.

The overall defense was superb.  Courtney Schellin served as the anchor to the defense with Jenna Pennock and Audrey Reinish helping her line to play so well.

Megan Stephens played sweeper and used her powerful legs to kick the ball downfield.  Jayne Langmeyer and Kourtney Conway played excellent from the midfield position.

Two forwards, Haley Laurie and Megan Panzanella were outstanding all season.  Megan led the team in assists and was tied for the most goals along with Haley.  Both of them work great together in finding the open spaces in the goal.

Amazingly all this talent will move to Ardrey Kell High School and the Knights finished second in the state championship this season.  Ardrey Kell head coach Jeff Mercado has got to be excited about the future of his program!
