PROVIDENCE SENDS ANOTHER VOLLEYBALL PLAYER TO COLLEGE
The list of Providence High School volleyball players that have earned college scholarships is quite lengthy. With a tradition of success for the volleyball program, it seems as if every year three or four more players are signing scholarships offers to play volleyball in college. Page Palanica just added her name to the list by signing a National Letter of Intent to play volleyball at Division 1 school Presbyterian.
The 17 year old daughter of Bill and Kate Palanica has helped to lead the Panthers to success over the last four seasons. As the only four year letterman on this years team, Paige had the opportunity to play for two incredible coaches in Zoe Bell and Karen Bradbury at Providence. Their coaching and Paige’s dedication to be the best she could be, placed her in front of many college coaches. After all the offers were in and visits were made, Paige selected Presbyterian as the best fit to continue her education and volleyball careers.
“I am so appreciative of the opportunities Coach Bell and Coach Bradbury gave me at Providence,” Paige said. “Between Providence and playing volleyball for the Carolina Juniors Club, I was able to receive great coaching and play across the region against the best players around.”
In addition to the state championships and runner up finishes at Providence, Paige was also a member of the 3rd place Carolina Juniors team at the 2006 National Championship. She plays outside hitter and middle blocker on the court.
As Paige begins to look to the future, she is very excited about joining the team at Presbyterian.
“Presbyterian won 20 matches this season, so I am really looking forward to playing for them. This is Presbyterian’s first year in division one and they did really well.”
In addition to being a superior volleyball player, Paige possesses another unique talent. She is a successful artist and loves to paint. She has won local art contests and enjoys painting portraits of people and animals. Paige has been awarded for her entries into several Charlotte Observer art contests.
“I like to escape into the art studio we have in our house. I will paint for hours at a time and I find it to be very relaxing.”
Paige also enjoys spending time with her church youth group at St. John Episcopal Church. The group raised over $140,000 with their Thirty Hour Famine last February, a remarkable amount of money.
Inside the classroom, Paige is a very good student with a 3.8 grade point average. She serves as President of the National Art Honor Society. She is interested in exploring the medical field in college and also hopes to earn a Minor in Art.
The South Charlotte Sports Report salutes Paige for earning the opportunity to continue her volleyball career a Presbyterian College. Good Luck Paige.
