CATHERINE SEABORN FINISHES SECOND IN STATE CROSS COUNTRY
MEET
Run Catherine, Run!
Catherine Seaborn has run cross country at Charlotte Christian
since the sixth grade. All that hard work paid off
this season as she ran a personal best of 19:41. Catherine
finished 3rd at the CISAA conference meet at McAlpine Park
on October 20th trailing seniors Jill Yandle and Sarah
Cline.
While Catherine had a great season, she was not expected
to be a contender for the state title. Catherine set
a goal to be all-state (top eleven) and top her ninth place
showing from last season. The state meet was
held in Clemmons, NC at Tanglewood Park on October 27th.
It rained all day and the course was muddy. Catherine stuck with
the pack at the front and fell off just a little bit about halfway
through. However, she got a second wind and slowly caught back up with
the group just before the last mile. The pack thinned out and Catherine
was catching the third place girl as they went into the woods for the last
time. When Catherine came out of the woods she was a clear second
place which was a surprise to everyone. Catherine beat everyone from
the CISAA which was a first for her. Her time was 19:57 which was especially
good considering the weather and state of the course. It was not
a fast day on the Tanglewood Course.
In the classroom Catherine is rankled in the top 20% of her class
with a 4.4 GPA and is a member of the National Honor Society. Catherine is undecided
as to where she will go to college next year, although she is leaning toward
Clemson.
We wish Catherine the best as she continues running all the way to college!
